CQLUG History and Information

donak — Sun, 2010-06-27 15:41

We started as ROCKLUG (Rockhampton Linux User Group), since there wasn't a huge expectation that we'd reach a massive audience.
We had some discussion, and setting up, online via IRC and email, planning how to get together and do what seemed needed.

Our first face to face meeting was in a park, Kershaw Gardens (obligatory "axe-murderer" check), and when one of our first members actually drove all the way from Gladstone, we felt we needed to expand the scope of the organisation.

And so, with further discussion, we arrived at CQLUG ... which might seem conceited, but since there were no LUGs between roughly, the Sunshine Coast at Cooroy, and Townsville in the north, the field was wide open. There was one at Bundaberg but last I heard it was lapsed.

We wouldn't be able to do what we do without the help and support freely given by

Central Queensland University
for our Saturday Meeting room

Rockhampton Regional Library
for our Wednesday evening Meeting room

Linux Australia
for this website! and our mailing / membership list, and lots of encouragement and support.
